Chembur man held over alleged poisoning of woman’s soft drink
Mumbai police have arrested a man accused of poisoning a woman at a Chembur bungalow and trying to present her death as natural or accidental.
Vishnumaya died in suspicious circumstances at about 11.30 p.m. on August 25 at Bungalow No. 57-A in Mysore Colony. The RCF police opened a detailed inquiry based on evidence at the property, witness statements and the circumstances surrounding the death.
Investigators allege that Ashish Magar suspected Vishnumaya’s character, mixed a poisonous substance into a bottle of soft drink and gave or forced her to consume it. Police say he then attempted to mislead investigators by portraying the death as natural or accidental. The allegations remain under investigation.
Following a complaint, police registered a case on August 28 under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Magar was arrested and produced before a local court, which remanded him to police custody for five days. Inspector Ramdas Patil is leading the investigation.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, Joint Commissioner Manojkumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner Dhananjay Kulkarni, Deputy Commissioner Sameer Shaikh and Senior Inspector Dattatray Patil. Police said further evidence was being examined.
